The clue of 27A is "Officer of the law studies list." I get that CONSTABLE is an officer of the law, and list is TABLE, but how does "studies" become CONS?

DeleteCould it be that the real clue is simply "officer" and that "law" is part of "law studies" in that CONS are studied in law school?
