Spring solving season (Solution No. 3,363)

It’s Monday—time for a solution.  And I was wrong about the Harpers’ puzzle: I finished it in one go-round.

Solution to Puzzle No. 3,363

Legend: “*” anagram; “~” sounds like; “<“ letters reversed; “( )” letters inserted; “_” or lower case: letters deleted; “†” explicit in the clue, “^” first or last letter or letters, “{“ relocated letter or letters; “§” heteronym, “¶” letter bank, “‡” Spoonerism

6a
_LOGIC_
b_LOG IC_on (hidden word indicated by “features”)

¶TRAIN (letter bank indicated by “takes … components and recycles them”)
I think it would have been fair enough to indicate with “takes … components, leaving out the additional indication”

  1. 9A: Interesting comment. Because letter banks are not (yet?) standard outside of _The Nation_ we try to be reasonably explicit. Maybe it's time to move towards more concise indicators.
